Hi everyone,

I am happy to invite Ajaan Yod (a Thai guru monk) to Singapore. This is the first event I am hosting and I hope you all will be kind towards me if I do not meet your expectations in organizing it. Constructive feedback and suggestions would be welcome by me.

Ajaan Yod will be in Singapore from 9/7/2011 (Saturday) to 17/7/2011 (Sunday) to meet devotees.

This event is open to people of all religious faiths as well as to people with no religion.

The purpose of meeting devotees is to allow devotees a chance to make merits for themselves, for their present and future lives.
Merit-making is done by devotees to build good Karma (Cause and Effect) for themselves until they attain Enlightenment in this or some
future life.

Generally speaking, all actions have consequences, and good deeds done sincerely will create causes for future happiness for oneself and others. When one talks about giving, it is not so much what one gives or how much one gives, but rather the sincerity or good intentions behind the giving. Even if one has nothing to give, an act of kindness which does not cost any money will create good merits for oneself and will benefit others.

A kind act done by oneself for the benefit of others which does not cost money is worth more than moutains of riches donated by a tycoon to build temples, in my view and from my understanding.

The following are the ways devotees can make merit:
1) Donate food directly to Ajaan Yod (Call me at +65 81336127 to make arrangements)
2) Donate things to Ajaan Yod for his use
- toothpaste, toothbrush, soap
- medicine, medical oil and so on
- clothing to keep warm in cold weather, blankets
- tea, milo, horlicks and so on
3) Donate money of any amount in a red packet to Ajaan Yod (Ajaan Yod will use the money for his basic needs, such as food and drink,
transportation, accommodation, as well as to pay for his mother's medical bills)

Currently, I am planning for one of the days during the period of 9th July 2011 to 17th July 2011 for Ajaan Yod to take a tour of Singapore (for example, visiting temples in Singapore and some other scenic places). LP Foo's (also spelt as LP Fu) "I am a winner" Parakid. ("Phim Lek" or small mould)

This amulet is very popular in Thailand it seems as most if not all of the other variations in designs have been sold out.

From my understanding, this amulet is meant for:

- Wealth Luck
- Being successful in everything you do (love, overcoming obstacles, Metta and so on)

Dimensions: 1.5 cm height by 1cm width

This amulet can be carried below waist level (in other words, you can put it in your trousers pocket and wear it that way).

On 14 May 2010, I went to Pantip Song (plaza for amulets).

I spotted some lek lai. The Thai dealer was kind enough to let me take photographs.

That more or less sums up my Thailand trip for that time. On 14 May 2010, I did some of my personal shopping (non-amulet related) and on 15 May 2010 I took my return flight back to Singapore.

Next stop is to Ajaan Ord's temple in Pathum Thani. When I went there in the afternoon, he wasn't free immediately, so I had to wait for a while. In the meantime, I went to the temple amulet counter to see what can be obtained there.

(Ajaan Ord gained fame when it was found that there were many reported incidents in Thai media that his amulets helped protect people from accidents. He is especially famous for his "bullet" takruts (spell scroll with bullet casing) and amulets of Protection from Danger and Invulnerability to Weapons (knives, guns and bombs).

The temple counter staff showed me some Malaysian Thai amulet magazine showing how Ajaan Ord's amulet protected someone.

Before I left Wat Chedi Hoy, I had some more pictures taken.

The structure below is rather unique or one of a kind (it is a temple structure made of oysters, fossilized oysters perhaps):

Since Wat Chedi Hoy had been submerged underwater for some of its history, I suspect the presence of Nagas to be strong here.

While walking around in Wat Chedi Hoy some more, I noticed a wide selection of sentient beings in captivity (in cages or in containers).

I knew that to free them, one had to give the person in charge there a certain sum of money. Actually I was already low in cash and net financial assets at the time (I didn't have much money to my name when I embarked on this trip to Thailand), but I gave what I felt was within my means to free some birds.

A white robed Thai guy there then wanted me to recite some words after him (some kind of chanting I would think, either in Thai or some other language, perhaps Pali). My taxi driver helped to recite for me for much of the chanting.

Then I went in front of a Guan Yin Bodhisatta statue to release the birds (video clip below):

After having my pictures taken with LP Thong Gleung, I looked around his 'inner sanctum' and had more pictures taken.

LP Thong Gleung's temple is really interesting......it is like a living museum.....it gives me a sense that I have walked into the past or a place of rich history......perhaps I lived through those times in my past lives....

Lp Thong Gleung wants to raise funds to rebuild his temple. The above Naga Walking stick which I am carrying can be taken for a fixed donation to the temple.

Wat Chedi Hoy is an interesting place......it gives me a sense of mystery, and the temple has a rich history......I was told by my taxi driver that the temple was underwater about 1000 years ago, adding to the mysterious aura.....This temple intrigues me....
Not surprisingly, it is known as the temple of oysters.....

The atmosphere in Wat Chedi Hoy when I was there is full of life, mixed with a somewhat laid-back and relaxed atmosphere. Cool

I eagerly anticipated meeting Lp Thong Gleung himself.

But first, I went to the temple counter to get some amulets first, for LP Thong Gleung to personally re-bless later.

Above: This car was donated by devotees of LP Cham Nam. Perhaps a number of those who donated the car are Singaporeans. I heard (not sure if accurate or not) that some of his devotees won a sum of money or had good business due to LP Cham Nam's help (maybe due to his amulet/s) or blessing so they donated this car to him as a way of thanking him for his help.

After Wat Sutat, it's about an hour's drive to LP Cham Nam's temple (Wat bang kuti-Thong) in Pathum Thani province.

Lp Cham Nam was having his lunch. So while waiting for him, I took some pictures in his temple. (The temple counter had no more of his amulets to let go. But you can donate a certain amount of money to him and get a few of his amulets in return)

Brief information about LP Cham Nam:

LP Cham Nam (sometimes written LP Chumnan) is the current Abbot of Wat Bang Kuti-Thong (in Pathum Thani province).

LP Cham Nam travelled much and studied with the some of the great Thai gurus of our time (for example, LP Surin and Jao-Khun Ramun Muni of Wat Banglung in Pathum Thani).

Through intensive meditation and spiritual practice, LP Cham-Nam is said to have developed the ability to communicate with many great gurus of times past such as the LP Suk of Wat Makantao, LP Toh of Wat Rakhang and even the legendary LP Thuad.
It is believed these great famous gurus of times past passed down their instructions on meditation, spiritual practice and how to make various effective amulets to LP Cham Nam.

13 May 2010:

In the morning, my first stop was at Wat Sutat.

At Wat Sutat, I happened to meet a Thai Chinese in Bangkok who told me that his friend won money from gambling using one of the Er Ge Feng amulets consecreted by Guru LP Kee. So he was there to get more of such amulets (maybe for his other friends).

(Please note that I do not have a habit of gambling, so I have not tested the effectiveness of this amulet or its reported claims)

This Thai Chinese showed me what he was wearing (it is an interesting chain made of amulets, plus a 2497 Ajaan Tim LP Thuad amulet, which is very expensive in the amulet world) (He was kind enough to allow me to photgraph his 2497 Ajaan Tim LP Thuad amulet and interesting amulet chain. Thanks to him!):

When asked how much he was selling this amulet (my taxi driver asked him), he just laughed and it was obvious he didn't want to sell it.

Hello everyone. I would like to share pictures of my recent trip to Thailand/Bangkok from 12 May to 15 May 2010.

During my time there, there was political chaos in Bangkok, Thailand's Capital city.

My taxi driver picked me up from Bangkok International Airport in the morning, and on my journey to my hotel, I was greeted with the following scenes which give me the flavour of the political chaos happening in Bangkok at the time.

The scene of the Red-shirt protest had shifted to the Silom/MBK area, which is the heart of Bangkok's financial district, largely owned by Bangkok's/Thailand's elite or upper class society.

Ancient Egyptian Taweret amulet, New Kingdom, Dynasty XVIII, c. 1539-1292 BC.An amulet (from Latin amuletum; earliest extant use in Naturalis Historia [Pliny], meaning "an object that protects a person from trouble"), a close cousin of the talisman (from Arabic طلاسم tilasm, ultimately from Greek telesma or from the Greek word "telein" which means "to initiate into the mysteries") consists of any object intended to bring good luck and/or protection to its owner. Talismans in the Abrahamic religions

A Crucifix, considered in Christian tradition as a defense against demons, as the holy sign of Christ's victory over every evil.In antiquity and the Middle Ages, most Jews, Christians and Muslims in the Orient believed in the protective and healing power of amulets or blessed objects. Talismans used by these peoples can be broken down into three main categories. The first are the types carried or worn on the body. The second version of a talisman is one which is hung upon or above the bed of an infirm person. The last classification of talisman is one with medicinal qualities. This latter category of item can be further divided into external and internal. In the former, one could, for example, place an amulet in a bath. The power of the amulet would be understood to be transmitted to the water, and thus to the bather. In the latter, inscriptions would be written or inscribed onto food, which was then boiled. The resulting broth, when consumed, was assumed to transfer the healing qualities engraved on the food into the consumer.

Jews, Christians, and Muslims have also at times used their holy books in a talisman-like manner in grave situations. For example, a bed-ridden and seriously ill person would have a holy book placed under part of the bed or cushion.[1]

Amulets are plentiful in the Jewish tradition, with examples of Solomon era amulets existing in many museums. Due to proscription of idols, Jewish amulets emphasize text and names—the shape, material or color of an amulet makes no difference.[2][3] See also Khamsa.

The Jewish tallis (Yiddish-Hebrew form; plural is tallitot), the prayer shawl with fringed corners and knotted tassels at each corner, is perhaps one of the world's oldest and most used talismanic objects. Some believe it was intended to distinguish the Jews from pagans, as well as to remind them of God and Heaven. An incorrect conjugation of the plural form (with Ashkenazi pronunciation), "tallisim," is very close to the term "talisman;" however, this is an incorrect etymology as the word talisman is of Greek origin.[4]

A little-known but well-worn amulet in the Jewish tradition is the kimiyah or "angel text". This consists of names of angels or Torah passages written on parchment squares by rabbinical scribes. The parchment is then placed in an ornate silver case and worn someplace on the body.[5]

However, the legitimate use of sacramentals, as long as one has the proper disposition, is encouraged in traditional Christianity. For example, the crucifix is considered a powerful apotropaic against demons and fallen spirits, and rosaries or St. Christopher medals are frequently hung on rear-view mirrors of vehicles in Christian cultures as a way of invoking God's protection during travel.

Lay Catholics are not permitted to perform exorcisms but they can use Holy water, blessed salt and other sacramentals such as the Saint Benedict Medal or the Crucifix for warding off evil.[6]

The Crucifix is one of the key Sacramentals used by Catholics and has been used to ward off evil for centuries. The imperial cross of Conrad II (1024-1039) referred to the power of the cross against evil.[7] Many of the early theologians of the Catholic Church made reference to use of the sign of the Cross by Christians to bless and to ward off demonic influences.

The crucifix is still widely used as a talismanic sacramental by Christians. In Christian culture, it is considered to be one of the most effective means of averting or opposing demons, as stated by many exorcists, including the famous exorcist of the Vatican, Father Gabriele Amorth.[8]

A well-known amulet among Catholic Christians is the Saint Benedict Medal which includes the Vade Retro Satana formula to ward off Satan. This medal has been in use at least since the 18th century and in 1742 it received the approval of Pope Benedict XIV. It later became part of the Roman Catholic ritual.[9]

Some Catholic Sacramentals are believed to defend against evil, by virtue of their association with a specific saint or archangel. The Scapular of St. Michael the Archangel is a Roman Catholic devotional scapular associated with Archangel Michael, the chief enemy of Satan. Pope Pius IX gave this scapular his blessing, but it was first formally approved under Pope Leo XIII.

The form of this scapular is somewhat distinct, in that the two segments of cloth that constitute it have the form of a small shield; one is made of blue and the other of black cloth, and one of the bands likewise is blue and the other black. Both portions of the scapular bear the well-known representation of the Archangel St. Michael slaying the dragon and the inscription "Quis ut Deus?" meaning Who is like God?.[10]

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (number 301) specifically refers to the use of Holy water for "protection from the powers of darkness".[11] Catholic saints have written about the power of Holy water as a force that repels evil. Saint Teresa of Avila, a Doctor of the Church who reported visions of Jesus and Mary, was a strong believer in the power of Holy water and wrote that she used it with success to repel evil and temptations.[12]

Muslims also wear such amulets, called Ta'wiz, with chosen text from Quran. The text is generally chosen depending on the situation for which the amulet is intended. Generally however, usage of amulets and other talismans is considered superstitious among more mainstream Muslims.

A religious amulet might be the figure of a certain god or simply some symbol representing the deity (such as the cross for Christians or the "eye of Horus" for the ancient Egyptians). In Thailand, one can commonly see people with more than one Buddha hanging from their necks; in Bolivia and some places in Argentina the god Ekeko furnishes a standard amulet, to whom one should offer at least one banknote to obtain fortune and welfare.

For the ancient Scandinavians, Anglo-Saxons and Germans and currently for some Neopagan believers the rune Eoh (yew) protects against evil and harm; a non-alphabetical rune representing Thor's hammer still offers protection against thieves in some places.

Deriving from the ancient Celts, the clover, if it has four leaves, symbolises good luck (not the Irish shamrock, which symbolises the Christian Trinity). In the celtic tradition a bag made from a crane skin (called a crane bag) symbolised treasure, a wheel symboled the sun, a boat also was a sun symbol, but also a death symbol (to the land of the dead), the raven was a symbol of death, the head was a symbol of wisdom as was the acorn and a well.

In Tyrol, it is believed that small bells make demons escape when they sound in the wind or when a door or window opens. Amulets are also worn on the upper right arm to protect the person wearing it.

In certain areas of India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, it is traditionally believed that the Jackal's Horn can grant wishes and reappear to its owner at its own accord when lost. Some Sinhalese believe that the horn can grant the holder invulnerability in any lawsuit.[13]

Some forms of Buddhism have a deep and ancient talismanic tradition. In the earliest days of Buddhism, just after the Buddha's death circa 485 B.C., amulets bearing the symbols of Buddhism were common. Symbols such as conch shells, the footprints of the Buddha, and others were commonly worn. After about the 2nd century B.C., Greeks began carving actual images of the Buddha. These were hungrily acquired by native Buddhists in India, and the tradition spread.[14]

During the tumultuous Plains Indians troubles in mid-19th century America, the Lakota Tribe adopted the Ghost Dance ritual, created by a Paiute Indian living in northwestern Oregon. Black Elk, the great Lakota Holy Man, received instructions on how to create a talismanic shirt that would protect the Lakota from the Greedy White Man's bullets. Tragically, the shirts failed to offer the Lakota any protection.

In addition to protection against supernatural powers, amulets are also used for protection against other people. For example, soldiers and those involved in other dangerous activities may use talismans to increase their luck. Carlist soldiers wore a medal of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with the inscription ¡Detente bala! ("Stop, bullet!").

after much consideration, I have decided to take the plunge and go into the Thai Amulet business.

I am planning a trip to Bangkok some time before middle of May 2010.

I'm currently planning to go to the following areas:

1) Wat Sutat
2) Wat Hua Lampong
3) Pantip Song
4) Khao Chamfa
5) LP Sothorn

Maybe Wat Bowen and Wat Prah Keow as well.

I might also be stocking up on Ah Fook hooks.

The current politcal situation in Bangkok is somewhat chaotic, so I will be risking my personal safety going there. I hope to have your support.
